NewsletterAutumn Term - Monday 8 September 2025

~ September 2025 ~

We have loved welcoming the children back into school, and meeting the new children who have started in Reception. It has been a really positive start to the term and the teachers have all been impressed with how well the children have settled back into school. Class newsletters have been shared via Tapesty, with information about what the children will be learning this term.

Our next INSET day will be on Friday 3 October 2025, where school will be closed to the children on that day. You can see some more upcoming dates here (also shown in the image below). We are in the process of finalising some other key dates for this term, which will be sent out to you by the end of next week.

As shared previously, Mr Evelyn, the head teacher at Robert Miles Junior School, and I have been working closely to align the two schools further. Our term dates, from September 2026, will be in line with the junior school to support parents with childcare during the school holidays. This is just being finalised and I hope to share the dates with you by the end of next week.

Thank you

Mrs Ryan

Head Teacher

We offer wrap around provision from 7.30am in the morning until 6.00pm in the evening. Because the sessions are run by members of staff well-known to the children, it is a smooth transition from school to the club and vice versa.

Fees from September 2025:

Breakfast Club: £6 per session

After-School Club: £10 per session

All bookings are done through the Schools Buddy system, even for short notice bookings. If you would like your child to attend and do not have a Schools Buddy account, or if you are having trouble accessing an existing account, please contact the school office:  office@rmischool.co.uk    01949 837422

Please see the poster below for dates of open days for parents / carers looking for a Reception school place for September 2025. A copy of the poster can be downloaded here.

Please feel free to spread the word!

Please ensure children wear the correct uniform everyday, including black shoes. We have agreed exceptions for a very small number of children with regards to footwear.

Our school uniform consists of:

• Blue sweatshirt or cardigan

• White polo shirt

• Black/grey trousers or shorts

• Grey skirt/pinafore – blue check summer dress may be worn in warmer weather

• Black/white/grey socks or tights

• Sensible black shoes

School Uniform can be purchased from S and A Uniforms – order forms and sample sizes are available at the school office. Alternatively, many of the larger supermarkets and department stores stock most of our school uniform.

There is no expectation that children should wear branded items of uniform.

Contact details: S and A Uniforms: Compton Acres, West Bridgford, Nottingham

Telephone: 07970 875671          Website: www.sauniforms.co.uk            Email: s-a.uniforms@ntlworld.com

Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled.

If your child should lose any of their belongings, lost property is located near to the main entrance. At the end of term, we will leave out all unnamed school items for you to look through in case they belong to your child.

Thank you

Last year, the government brought in new regulations to improve school attendance. Under the new national framework, all schools are required to consider a fine when a child has missed 10 sessions (5 full days days or 10 mornings / afternoons) in a 10-week period, for unauthorised reasons. As term-time holidays are counted as unauthorised absence, except for in exceptional circumstances, they will be included in this. As a school, we need to ensure our procedures are in line with the new statutory guidance, which is that schools must refer a fixed penalty notice fine for term-time leave of 5 or more school days. This is then the decision of the local authority (Nottinghamshire) whether they issue the fine. It is important to note, the school does not receive any money from the fines. Money raised via fines is used by the local authority to cover the costs of administering the system, and to fund attendance support. Any extra money is returned to the government.

The first time a Penalty Notice is issued for unauthorised term-time leave, the amount will be £160 per parent, per child if paid within 28 days. This is reduced to £80 per parent, per child if paid within 21 days.

We appreciate that holidays are expensive out of term time but please note this is national guidance and we have a legal responsibility to follow it.

Please consider this new legislation when thinking about booking holidays during term time.

You can download a full copy of the ‘Working together to improve school attendance’ document here and find out more information about penalty notices here.

In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Last year, in response to feedback in a parent survey, we moved the majority of our communication to Tapestry, so that information can be easily located in one place. There are occasions when we may need to email information out, particularly if it is from the office (such as an email linked to Schools Buddy, our system for booking access to our wrap around care at Robert Miles Club), but mostly it will be shared on Tapestry, particularly regarding class / school events.

Please ensure you have access to Tapestry and that your account has been activated. A test post was sent last week (Thursday 28 August), where you have been asked to like the post so that we can check at least one parent / carer in each family has an active account.

Please remember to always communicate any absence via the school office, rather than Tapestry. Teachers may not see your message in time and so the school office may contact parents if they haven't been informed about the absence, even if it is on Tapestry.

Thank you
