As you will know, we had some visitors on Wednesday, which meant the children were not able to go outside at lunchtime. We were all incredibly impressed with how sensible they were and how interested the children were in finding out more. It has led to an additional learning opportunity in many classrooms.
After some fantastic work from our amazing site manager, Eddy, and having enlisted the expertise of a local beekeeper, we are pleased to say their visit was short but sweet and they have now moved on to find a new home.
As mentioned previously, I have been meeting regularly with Mr Evelyn, the head teacher at Robert Miles Junior School, to continue to develop stronger links between the two schools and align our practice. I am pleased to announce that, as part of this collaboration, from September 2026, we will be coordinating our term dates to ensure consistency for families. Whilst there was some discussion about doing this for the next academic year, both schools have already published their term dates and so some children and staff already have holidays booked, making it difficult to work for 2025-26.
We believe this partnership will benefit our school community and support child care / holiday options for parents. We will let you know the final term dates for September 2026 onwards as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support.
Whilst this is not a topic we like to discuss too much, as we aren't ready to think about our lovely Year 2s leaving us quite yet, we appreciate parents / carers will need notice of dates to enable you to book time off work etc. As Year 2 did their main play at Christmas time, this year will be slightly different, but just as special. To celebrate their time with us at Robert Miles Infant School, we will be expanding our usual leavers' assembly to include some additional performances from the children to showcase their time at school.
Parents and carers will be invited to join us for this celebration on either Thursday 24th July at 5pm OR Friday 25th July at 9am. The content will be the same on both days. We have included an additional date this year, after school, to enable more parents / carers to be able to attend. More information will be sent out nearer the time.
Some parents and local residents have raised concerns over parking near school during drop-off and pick-up times, especially regarding parking / driving along School Lane during those busy times. As a school, we will always prioritise the safety of the children and so kindly ask that parents / carers avoid driving / parking on School Lane during peak drop off / pick up times.
Alternative parking can be found on Carnarvon Place or at the Bingham Car Park, which is only a short walk away and offers free short-stay parking.
We have sought advice from a local parking officer recently, regarding a previous concern. Parents / local residents are also able to raise concerns directly. Contact details can be found below:

Thank you for all the responses to the homework survey. We are currently reviewing these and will update you on any changes to our homework offer soon.
If anyone has any large pebbles (big enough for painting), we would love to collect them to use as part of a project to help develop some of our outdoor spaces.
In preparation for our summer fair, we would also like to start collecting clean jars (e.g. empty jam jars / pasta sauce jars).
If you are able to help with either of these, please send them in with the children or directly to the office.
Thank you
