Autumn Term

Autumn Term

This term our topic focus will be 'The Enchanted Forest'.

We begin our term exploring 'The Gruffalo' and learning all about different nouns and adjectives in preparation for us to write our own character descriptions.

We will be finding out about the animals that live in our gardens and surrounding areas and thinking about their diets, identifying the differences between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

We will learn about the weather in Autumn and collect data and record the daily weather patterns that occur.

In art, we will be learning about Gustav Klimpt and we will be paying close attention to his 'tree of life'. We will be using different lines and mediums to create our own versions of the 'tree of life'.

We will be learning some harvest songs to share at the Harvest Festival.

The children will continue to access Continuous Provision throughout the term. It offers the children a constant environment that enables them to explore and develop independence.

Autumn 1 Newslette

We began our topic of 'The enchanted forest' by exploring our own forest school area and we found some different clues that led us to work out the character we would be focusing on this term. The children then delved deeper into the story of the Gruffalo. We focused on learning what a noun and an adjective is and then created our own character descriptions of the Gruffalo.

We have been inspired by Gustav Klimpts painting of 'The tree of life' to create our own interpretations in the style of him. We thought carefully about the different lines he uses with a particular focus on 'the swirl' and then replicated this using different mediums of pencil, pen and metallics to create our final product.

We have been learning in geography about human and physical features and identifying these within our school grounds as well as within different pictures of landmarks around the country. We then had a sorting activity to complete during our independent learning where we worked with our learning partner to group the pictures.

We created our own Poppies in the style of Charles Mackintosh for remembrance day.

We had a brilliant Christmas performance of 'Tinsel on Tithby Hill'. All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were great in their roles. They sang beautifully and the costumes really made the show!
