Keep your eyes peeled for more information on our learning and photographs of the exciting times we have during summer term in Year 2.
Science
In science we've been learning about different habitats: ocean, woodland, rainforest, desert and polar. We've learnt how animals have adapted to become suited to the different habitats. The children have enjoyed learning this song: Habitats Song
English
In Year 2 English we have been learning about alliteration (when some words in a phrase or sentence begin with the same sound). The children worked really hard to come up with their own alliteration sentences to match a picture. We were then inspired by out topic 'Commotion in the Ocean' to write alliteration poems which were linked to things that are happening in our oceans. Click here to read our poems.
English - The Storm Whale
We have also been working really hard to create our own version of 'The Storm Whale'. We started our learning by retelling the beginning of the story, before then coming up with our own alternative ending. We then went on to create the illustrations for our story and have since published these in our school library area for everyone to enjoy!
Art
In our Art lessons we have been using the work of Vincent Van Gough to inspire us in creating our own seascapes. We explored the use of colour and how we can mix primary colours to create secondary colours. We explored how we could alter the tone of these colours to create our background. We then thought about the brushstrokes used by Van Gough to create texture in the waves for our foreground. Finally, we added our boat to our painting!
