Our topic for Summer 2 is 'What can you find at the bottom of the garden?'.

Please click the link below for more information about the topics.

Termly Overview (details of the focus / key learning for each week).

We will read and explore lots of stories, such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Jack and the Beanstalk, Supertato, Superworm, The Teeny Tiny Tadpole and Oliver's Fruit/Vegetables. As part of our topic, we will learn through lots of exciting activities, such as:

Finding out about the life-cycle of a butterfly, by looking after our own caterpillars.

Exploring our outdoor environment to see what living things we can find.

Finding out about plants and what they need to help them grow.

Preparing different fruits to taste.

We will use the basic skills we are taught in Literacy and Maths to support our learning throughout the curriculum.

The above themes and ideas are starting points for the children’s learning. Where possible, we will plan activities based on the children’s interests and in response to our assessments and observations.

White Post Farm Trip

We had a fantastic time at White Post Farm, learning all about the animals and how to care for them. We saw harvest mice, reptiles, meerkats, pigs, cows, goats, sheep, deer and alpacas. We were lucky enough to hold a very cute mouse and Guinea pig and stroke a Pygmy goat called Camilla.
We fed lots of different goats and sheep. Learning how to feed them safely with our hands flat. We learnt the names of some baby animals such as Kid ( a baby goat) and porcupette ( a baby porcupine). We really enjoyed our tractor ride and went into the cows field to see them up close.

Mini beasts

We have been looking closely at lots of different insects. We were very lucky to be able to watch caterpillars transform into butterflies and released them into the wild.

Clay sculptures

We made our own mini beasts from clay by looking closely at some photos and insects in the environment before we added paint to make them look more realistic.

Healthy eating

After reading Oliver's fruits and vegetables we thought about how we could stay healthy. We sorted foods into healthy and unhealthy groups. We discussed the importance of eating a variety of foods but making sure we eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.

We decided to make ourselves a fruit kebab and learnt how to cut up a variety of fruits safely using the claw grip. We chopped up apples, mangoes, watermelon and lots of other delicious fruits. Some of us tried fruits we hadn't had before and were very proud of ourselves.
